Biomaterials and Environmental Chemistry major Department of Applied Chemistry

Biomaterials and Environmental Chemistry major
Bring biology and applied science together to create the dream technologies of the future
The Biomaterials and Environmental Chemistry major starts by giving first- and second-year students the foundational chemical knowledge that underlies modern science and technology—from inorganic and organic chemistry to analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, polymer chemistry, biochemistry, and more. In the third and fourth years of study, the program covers the sophisticated specialist knowledge as well as experimental and analytical skills they need to become chemical engineers capable of developing medical equipment, sensors, and more.

What you’ll learn with a Biomaterials and Environmental Chemistry major

  1. Get a solid education in a pioneering field and secure a bright future in research
Bioenvironmental chemistry is a new field of study that brings together research in biotechnology and environmental analysis. Develop new pharmaceuticals, functional food products, biosensors—the possibilities are endless.
  2. Present at academic conferences to expand your viewpoint and personal networks
Many of AIT’s applied chemistry push their undergraduate students to participate in academic conferences, presenting their research findings and exchanging feedback with outside researchers in order to broaden their perspective and enrich their personal networks.
  3. Get your ticket to a diverse array of career choices—from research and development to sales!
Upon graduation, you’ll be able to apply your skills in chemical analysis and experimentation to advance research and development anywhere from pharmaceuticals, food products, new materials, cosmetics, and environmental technologies. Our students also have bright prospects in any of the local manufacturing industries, including ceramics, plastics, automotive parts, and electronic components. Many excellent sales and service positions also require the use of solid chemical knowledge.

Put your knowledge to work

The world of bioenvironmental studies means identifying the superior features of life itself from a chemical perspective, creating sensors and new pharmaceuticals, developing new catalysts, and more.
Pharmaceuticals Explain biological functioning on a molecular level in order to develop sensors, next-generation pharmaceuticals, and more.
Environmental analysis Analytical science serves an important function in the environmental surveys, environmental improvements, and medical analysis, endeavors designed to maintain a safe and secure living environment for the world’s people.
